| biography:
| Writer, born in Gnodstadt, SC Germany. He studied in Geneva, Naples, and Paris, where he met Zola, who greatly influenced his work. Conrad was a representative of early Naturalism, and his style was a conscious effort to reflect the chaos of reality. In his book Was die Isar raucht (1888), he describes the seedy side of life among the artists and dancing girls in Munich's Schwabing district. He wrote a biography of Zola (1906) and published the periodical Die Gesellschaft. |
