| Anthropologist and teacher, born in New York City, New York, USA. He earned a Harvard PhD and joined the faculty at Yale (1960). He wrote many studies on pre-Columbian Mexico and Central America, including Atlas of Ancient America (1986), and was adviser to the Robert Woods Bliss Collection of Pre-Columbian Art at Dumbarton Oaks (1963–80). |
