| British stage director. He studied at Bristol University and the Drama Centre in London, and worked for two years in community and young people's theatre in Birmingham. He became an associate director of the Bristol Old Vic (1976–9), and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1980 as a resident director, becoming an associate director (1982–90), and artistic director (1991–2003). |
