| Actor and singer, born in the West Midlands, C England, UK. He studied at the Guildford School of Acting (1981–4), then made his professional debut. His first starring role was in The Pirates of Penzance (1985, Manchester Opera House), and he made his West End debut in Les Miserables later that year. Other major productions include Phantom of the Opera (1987), Aspects of Love (1989, Broadway debut 1990), and Passion (1996). Television work includes his own series (1993, 1994) and he has made many recordings. The Variety Club of Great Britain voted him Most Promising Artiste in 1989 and he later received their award for Best Recording Artiste of 1998. |
