| Economist, born in Montclair, New Jersey, USA. He taught at Stanford University (1973–6) and Harvard (1971–3, 1976–90) before returning to Stanford as dean of the business school (1990). His principal contributions include work on the economics of information and in the dynamic aspects of competition. He shared the Nobel Prize for Economics in 2001 for the analysis of markets with asymmetric information. |
