| Mezzo-soprano, born in St Louis, Missouri, USA. She made an acclaimed debut at the Paris Opera in 1960 and the next year sang Venus at Bayreuth. Her Metropolitan Opera debut came in 1965 and she went on to a distinguished international career singing both mezzo and soprano roles. |
