| biography:
| Anthologist and editor, born in Dueñas, NWC Spain. He brought together two major collections of authentic and attributed sayings by real people, classifying his collections according to the category of speakers, for example kings, dukes, travellers, and tradesmen. Many of these stories are still current, long after their source has been forgotten. The Floresta española de apotegmas, o sentencias sabia y graciosamente dichas de algunos españoles (Toledo, 1574) was reprinted in 1910 by the Sociedad de Bibliófilos españoles, but Los cien tratados de notables sentencias assí morales como naturales (Toledo, 1576) has not so far been reprinted. |
