| biography:
| Writer, born in Schwyz, C Switzerland. He worked as a clock-maker and waiter before studying and becoming a newspaper editor. He wrote realistic novels set against a rural background in which he contrasts the life of the farming communities with that of the city. These include Die Welt in Ingoldau (1922) and Jugend eines Volkes (1933). His major work, Schweizerspiegel (1938), depicts Swiss history during 1912–18 through the story of an upper-class family in Zurich. |
