| Etcher and lithographer, born in Bordeaux, SW France. A prolific artist who made his reputation after moving to Paris (1853), he produced realistic town scenes and landscapes, then turned to engraving. In 1866 he began a successful collaboration with the ‘House of Cadart’, who published his treatise on acid engraving (1866), which was successful and influential.. He transcribed his impressions of the troubles of 1870–1 in a series of plates, notably ‘The Siege of Paris’ and ‘Bastion 66’. |
