| biography:
| Italian politician and writer, born in Coperchia, Campania, SW Italy. He escaped to France after taking part in the unsuccessful 1794 plot in Naples and joined Napoleon's army. He was ambassador to Holland, first for the Cisalpine Republic then for the Italian Kingdom (1799–1808). In Joachim Murat's Naples he helped reform the education system. After the return of the Bourbons he was president of parliament (1820–1). |
