| Writer, born in Como, Lombardy, N Italy. He co-founded, with Curzio Malaparte, the literary review 900 (1926–9), where he elaborated his ‘magic realism’ theory which finds magic in everyday life. This anti-naturalistic view appears in such novels as Eva ultima (1923), Gente nel tempo (1937), Giro del sole (1941), and L'amante fedele (1953), and in his plays Nostra Dea (1925) and Venezia salva (1947). |
