| Religious founder, born in Dublin, Ireland. Emigrating to the USA in 1833, she overcame financial problems to found a school in Philadelphia. She also formed a teaching community, the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which she relocated to a frontier region in Iowa (1843). |
