| biography:
| British television journalist, presenter, and newsreader. He studied at Trinity College, Dublin, became a presenter with BBC Belfast (1967–8), moved to HTV Wales (1968–70), and joined ITN (1971), becoming newsreader and foreign correspondent on News at Ten and News at 5.45 (1978–86). His work for the BBC includes presenter of the One O'Clock News (1986), Nine O'Clock News (1987–94), Six O'Clock News (1994–9), the Crimebeat series (1996, 1997), and he hosted Today's the Day (1993–7). His books include Tears and Smiles - The Hospice Handbook (1989), Go For It (annual, 1993– ), and Reflections on Success (1997). |
