| Anthropologist and archaeologist, born in Waltham, Massachusetts, USA. He studied at the University of Arizona (PhD) and joined the faculty of the University of Maryland (1976). He published a number of works on contemporary American religions, including Roots of Modern Mormonism (1979). As an archaeologist, he is best known for his detailed analyses of pre-Columbian residence patterns and what they reveal about social organization and interaction. |
