| Swimmer, born in Modesto, California, USA. He trained at the Santa Clara Swim Club, and studied at Indiana University (1972). He won two gold medals at the Mexico City Olympic Games (1968) in team events. His outstanding achievement came at the Munich Olympic Games (1972), when he became the first athlete to win seven gold medals at one Games, four of which were for individual events. He turned professional in 1972, and also appeared in several films. |
