| Physician, born in Thoirette, E France. He studied at Lyon and Paris, and in 1801 was appointed physician to the Hôtel-Dieu. He was the first to simplify anatomy and physiology by reducing the complex structures of the organs to their elementary tissues. His work largely founded the study of histology. |
