| In Dutch history, the daughter of a burgomaster of Veere (Zeeland), born in Boulogne, NW France, who married Hugo de Groot (Grotius) in 1608. She accompanied him to prison in Loevestein, and devised his escape in a book box. She was freed shortly afterwards, and joined her husband in Paris. For the rest of her life she worked ceaselessly in his interest. |
