| British flower painter. At the age of 40, after the death of her father, she set off to paint colourful and exotic flowers in many countries. Encouraged by Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker, she gave her valuable collection to Kew Gardens, where they can be seen in a gallery, opened in 1882, which bears her name. |
