| biography:
| Dutch politician, born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Politician for the Dutch Social-Democratic Party, she served as minister of housing, public order, and the environment. From 1980 she held important posts in the Amsterdam social services, and later in Zaanstad, and led her parliamentary party in 1985–7. She was appointed Queen's Commissioner for Drenthe in 1993, but gave this up to become a minister in the Kok cabinet from 1994. |
