| Queen of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, born in Søborg, E Denmark. She became Queen of Denmark in 1375, on the death of her father, Waldemar IV, without male heirs; by the death of her husband Haakon VI in 1380, she became ruler of Norway; and in 1388 she aided a rising of Swedish nobles against their king, Albert of Mecklenburg, and became Queen of Sweden. She had her infant cousin, Eric of Pomerania, crowned king of the three kingdoms at Kalmar in 1397, but remained the real ruler of Scandinavia until her death. |
