| Psychoanalyst, born in Sopron, NW Hungary. She studied medicine at the German universities of Munich, Heidelberg, and Jena (1922 MD), then founded the first psychoanalytic child guidance clinic in Vienna. Married to psychiatrist Paul Mahler (1925), she left Austria with him to settle in New York City (1938). She was best known for her pioneering work on childhood schizophrenia and the individuation process. |
