| Educational reformer, born in New York City, USA, and brought up near Inverness, NE Scotland, UK. She agitated ceaselessly in the industrial N of England for medical inspection and school clinics. In 1902 she joined her sister Rachel (1859–1917) in London, where they opened the first school clinic (1908) and the first open-air nursery school (1914). After Rachel's death, the Rachel McMillan Training College for nursery and infant teachers was established as a memorial. |
