| Children's author, born in Whangarei, New Zealand. A librarian with a taste for writing, she published her first story in 1961, and by 1993 had published 110 books. Since 1986, with The Trickster, the settings of her stories have increasingly had a more distinctively New Zealand flavour. She has twice won the Carnegie Award for children's literature. |
