| Actress, born at Barnt Green, West Midlands, C England, UK. She made her stage debut at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre (1938), later joining the Old Vic. Throughout her career she worked regularly in London and on Broadway, making numerous stage, screen, and television appearances. She won Tony Awards for Separate Tables (1956) and The Night of the Iguana (1962). For The Go-Between (1970) she received the award of Best Supporting Actress from the British Society of Film and Television Arts, and won an Emmy for her performance in a television production of Hamlet (1970). |
