| Playwright, born in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, USA. As a journalist who took to the theatre, he achieved several outstanding successes in collaboration with George S Kaufman, including Dulcy (1921), To the Ladies (1922), the amusing ‘Expressionist’ Beggar on Horseback (1924), and Hunter's Moon (1958). His greatest individual success was Green Pastures (1930, Pulitzer). |
