| biography:
| Dancer and director, born in Niteroi, SE Brazil. She trained in Rio de Janeiro, and with the Sadler's Wells Ballet School. She joined the Grand Ballet of Marquis de Cuevas in 1957, and Stuttgart Ballet in 1961, working under the direction of John Cranko, for whom she created roles in Romeo and Juliet (1962), Onegin (1965), Carmen (1971), and Initials R.B.M.E. (1972). She has made guest appearances frequently around the world, and worked for major choreographers such as Kenneth MacMillan and Glen Tetley. She was artistic director of Stuttgart Ballet from 1976 to 1996. |
