| Film-maker, born in Vesoul, E France. His film Le Mile (1932) was a portrait of the runner Jules Ladoumègue, and he also made films about famous people of culture and politics from the 1940s to the 1970s. A keen advocate of Soviet films, he helped to found the first cine-clubs, and was co-founder and director of studies at I'IDHEC (L'Institut des hautes études cinématographiques) in 1943–52. |
