| Composer, born in Pont-l'Abbé, W France. From a family of artists (his father was a famous sculptor), he attended the Conservatoire with Marguerite Long, Busser, and Charles Munch. He produced orchestral works (directed by Monteux), concertos, La Symphonie de Montségur (1987), Le Fou (1949), opera and ballet music (Le Fantôme de l'Opéra, 1979), and film music. As an administrator, he was director of the Conservatoire of Boulogne-sur-Seine, and music director at the Comédie Française and with the ministry for cultural affairs. In 1941 he married the pianist Jacqueline Potier. |
