| Playwright and historian, born in Valladolid, NWC Spain. He collaborated with the French invaders of 1808, as did his friend and mentor Leandro Fernández de Moratín; when the French withdrew the two left for Bordeaux, and in 1827 for Paris. He wrote two plays influenced by Moratín: Don Simplicio de Utrera and El reconciliador. His works were collected in Obras póstumas (2 vols., 1845), with a biography by his son F A Silvela, and Obras literarias (1890) in Colección de Escritores Castellanos. |
