| Physical chemist, born in Bochum, W Germany. He studied in Göttingen, and directed the Max Planck Institute for Physical Chemistry there from 1964. He developed methods for the study of very fast chemical reactions, and for this work shared the 1967 Nobel Prize for Chemistry. |
