| Writer, born in Zerbst-Anhalt, EC Germany. In 1967 he took Czech citizenship and fled the following year to the Federal Republic of Germany, following condemnation in the German Democratic Republic of his views in the controversy over Biermann. Favouring satire and parody, Bieler often used divided Germany as his theme, as in Der Schuß auf die Kanzel (1958), Walhalla (1988), and Still wie die Nacht. Memoiren eines Kindes (1989), and the radio plays Nachtwache (1963), Das provisorische Leben (1971), and Der Hausaufsatz (1974). His books and novels for children include Bonifaz oder der Matrose in der Flasche (1963), Der Mädchenkrieg (1975), Der Kanal (1978), and Der Bär (1983). |
