| Roman Catholic woman who, with Betty Williams (1943– ), founded the movement for peace in Northern Ireland known as the ‘Peace People’ (1976). The movement involved people from both the Catholic and Protestant communities who wished to see an end to the sectarian violence plaguing the province. They shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 1976. |
