| Dancer, artistic director, and teacher, born in London, UK, the niece of actor Sir John Gielgud. She studied with many distinguished teachers prior to her 1961 debut with Roland Petit's company, and later danced with Ballet of the 20th Century (1967–71) and the London Festival Ballet (1972–5). She became artistic director of the Australian Ballet (1983–96) and then director of the Royal Danish Ballet. |
