| biography:
| Dutch military officer in the service of Charles of Egmont, Duke of Gelre. He became Stadtholder of Sneek in 1518, and in 1528 was Governor of Utrecht and led a raid on The Hague. Ten years later, after Charles' death, he transferred to the French service, captured Amersfoort, and raided Brabant. In 1543 he transferred again to Charles V when he took over Gelre. Probably unfairly, he has been labelled the Gelderland Attila. |
