| biography:
| Traditional, possibly legendary, law-giver of Sparta, first mentioned by Herodotos in the 5th-c BC, who is said to have instigated the Spartan ideals of harsh military discipline. There is much dispute over his existence, but some scholars claim his measures were instrumental in preventing a second helot revolt, and that he delineated the powers of the two traditional organs of the Spartan government. |
