| Archaeologist, born in San Esteban de Bas, Gerona, NE Spain. Also interested in ethnography, anthropology, and literature, he abandoned his career as a teacher in 1951 to dedicate himself to the creation of the Museo Arqueológico de Tenerife, of which he later became director. In Galicia he met F Bouza-Brey, whose influence led to him to study and rescue the cultural heritage of the Canary Is. His return to the islands helped to introduce studies in archaeology and ethnography in Tenerife in close collaboration with the historian E Sierra Ráfols. In addition to his scientific pursuits he also wrote poetry and essays on literary subjects. He was awarded the Gold Medal by the island of Tenerife (1982) and the Premio Canarias de Acervo Histórico in 1985. |
