| Italian admiral, born in Genoa, Liguria, NW Italy. In charge of the Italian forces on the island of Lero in 1942, he became commander-in-chief of the Italian fleet in the Aegean sea from September 1943 and held out against the Germans. In 1944 he was captured, condemned to death by the Fascists, and shot. |
