| Italian politician and economist, born in Venice, Veneto, NE Italy. A deputy of the right from 1871, he held a number of posts even after the left came to power in 1876. As Chancellor of the Exchequer (1891–1906) he strengthened the lira, and as minister of agriculture, industry, and commerce he implemented a number of reforms. |
