| Italian politician and writer, born in Bologna, Emilia-Romagna, N Italy. In 1913 he became a deputy for the nationalist movement, which later merged with Fascism in 1923. He was colonial office and interior minister under Mussolini and president of the senate (1929–39). He supported Grandi at the Gran Consiglio meeting in 1943 and was sentenced to death in absentia by the Verona tribunal. After the liberation he was sentenced to life imprisonment but then pardoned. |
