| Mexican statesman and historian, born in Guanajuato, SC Mexico. As a deputy to the Spanish Cortes (1820–1), he spoke out for Mexican independence. Mexico's most influential Conservative, and chief minister under Anastasio Bustamante (1829–32), he founded the National Museum, and died shortly after completing his monumental Historia de Mexico (1842–52). |
