| biography:
| Poet and novelist, born in Rotterdam, W Netherlands. He studied law and archaeology, and in 1939 made his debut as a poet in the literary magazine Werk. In later works he demonstrates his mastery of inventive imagery and a rich fantasy which may be attributed to his fascination with Surrealism. In the 1960s he co-operated on Barbarber, but then chose to retreat from literary life and dedicate himself to archaeology and music. |
