| Civil engineer, born in Nevers, C France. He studied at the École des Ponts et Chaussées, and in 1812 invented a hydraulic lime that would set under water. After 20 years of research into the composition of mortar and hydraulic lime, he provided architects and builders with a new and multi-purpose material, namely concrete. |
