| Writer, born in Brest, NW France. He went to work as a farmhand in Canada (1911) and wrote Maria Chapdelaine the story of the hardships of life in part of Quebec province. It was published in 1915 and was a great success, though Hémon was killed in a train accident in Canada before its publication. Nicole Deschamps published a new edition of Maria Chapdelaine in 1980. |
