| Sculptor, born in Lyon, SC France. He studied in Paris, and settled in London (c.1730). His statue of Handel for Vauxhall Gardens (1738) first made him popular, and he completed statues of Newton, at Cambridge (1755), Shakespeare (1758, British Museum), and others. |
