| Scientist and inventor, born in Langon, SW France. Interested in photography from 1859, his publication Les Couleurs en photographie (1869, Colour in Photography) outlined for the first time the principles of additive and subtractive colour reproduction. In 1878 he published Photographie en couleur (Photography in Colour), describing practical methods which he patented, and in 1891 proposed the anaglyph method of viewing stereoscopic images. |
