| Judge, born in London, UK . He studied at Trinity College, Dublin, and Cambridge, where he was distinguished in both Classics and rowing. He became MP for Co Antrim 1880, declined the home secretaryship and a judgeship, and was then appointed direct from the bar in 1887 to be a Lord of Appeal in Ordinary. He was a leader in reforming professional legal education. As a judge, he was erudite, but he had a knack of speaking concisely and authoritatively. |
