| biography:
| Dutch trade unionist, born in Rotterdam, W Netherlands. Chairman of the Federation of Dutch Trade Unions (Federatie Nederlandse Vakverenigingen - FNV), in 1975 he became area administrator of the Dienstenbond FNV, and negotiator at the CAO from 1982, co-ordinating terms of employment policies from 1985. He was chairman of the Dienstenbond in 1988 and of the entire FNV in 1997. He is also vice-chairman of the Social Economic Council (Sociaal Economische Raad (SER)) and chairman of the employee's delegation in the Labour Foundation (Stichting van de Arbeid). |
