| Stage director and actor, born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He began his career as a radio then television actor, later turning to theatre directing. He directed productions at the Great Lakes Drama Festival, the Northland Playhouse (Detroit), A Raisin in the Sun (1959) in New York, and a number of television plays. He served as artistic director of the Eugene O'Neill Theater Center, and until 1991 was dean-artistic director of the Yale School of Drama and Repertory Theater, where he introduced many new American playwrights and theatre people. |
