| biography:
| Artist, born in Yeronga, Queensland, NE Australia. He worked in Sydney Ure Smith's studio in Sydney from 1917. His early drawings, meticulous in draughtsmanship and Romantic in style, were etched or lithographed, and in 1931 he held his first exhibition, in Sydney. He turned to oils, and in 1942 the Art Gallery of New South Wales held a retrospective exhibition of his work, with another in 1969. He made several journeys to Europe, and the influence of the Italian landscape lightened the tone of his oils. |
