| biography:
| French actor, originally from Parma, N Italy. In 1927 he went to live in France, where he became a professional wrestler. His first film was Jacques Becker's Touchez pas au grisbi (1954) opposite Jean Gabin. Later roles were generally all men of action, but he also demonstrated subtlety in such films as Le Deuxième Souffle (1966, director J P Melville), Cadavres exquis (1976, director F Rosi), and Un papillon sur l'epaule (1978, director J Deray). |
